Field Crop Competition

The Field Crop Competition is an out-of-Show Competition that is judged on the property in the actual Crop.

The RAS Field Crop Competition aims to seek excellence in grain crop production and enhance sustainable and profitable crop production throughout New South Wales.  To achieve this, the competition focuses on engaging grain producers in a mutual assessment of farming practices among peers, supported by technical input from agronomists.  Competitors have the opportunity to accompany the judges to each property to gain a greater understanding of what methods are being used on other farms.  It is a great learning tool for farmers and is a unique aspect of this competition.

In the past few years, around nineteen Organisations held Field Crop competitions.  Entrants have the choice of entering a cereal grain, legume, oilseed or grazing crop such as oats. The long standing Field Wheat Competition was restructured in 1996 to expand on the range of crops that could be entered and to place greater emphasis on a variety of criteria in the judging process.

The Competitions are judged by prominent Agronomists from the Department of Industry & Investment NSW or local consulting firms.  The RAS is committed to promoting agricultural excellence and to celebrate the achievements and values of Australian agriculture through our external competitions and the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
